We Are Here to Answer Any Question

Do I say with my child during the visit?

We invite you to stay with your child during the initial examination. During future appointments, we suggest you allow your child to accompany our staff through the dental experience. We can usually establish a closer rapport with your child when you are not present. Our purpose is to gain your child confidence and overcome apprehension. However if you choose, you are more than welcome to accompany you child to the treatment room.

Why should I choose Pediatric Dentist vs. a General Practitioner?

Pediatric dentists are especially trained to work with the emotional and developmental requirements of children. What’s more, children’s oral care is not just a toned-down version of adult dentistry. This is a uniquely child-centered practice with staff hired because of their gifts with children, an environment created for kids’ comfort and entertainment, child-sized equipment, and technology chosen for its benefits to our pediatric patients. And don’t forget, when children have pleasant experiences with early dental care, they are much more likely to continue their care through adulthood.

Why does my child need fluoride?

Every day, teeth lose some of their protective minerals. When children consume acidic foods or drinks, such as sodas, sour candies, juices or even liquid medication, then fail to brush as well as they should, their tooth enamel can become damaged. We can help reverse this damage through rematerializing fluoride treatments that strengthen teeth and repair early decay.

Why should we consider dental sealants?

Cavities do not have to be a normal part of growing up –even if your child has deep grooves in his or her teeth. When sealants are painted onto the rough and textural exterior of a child’s tooth, they fill the deeper grooves and fissures in which plaque and bacteria can hide from young brushers, and create a smooth and easy-to-clean surface. Protective sealants also make it much harder for bacteria to get a foothold and helps protect from and prevent childhood decay. If you have kids, talk to us about how sealants can protect their teeth! Applying sealants can also be a great way to introduce your child to dentistry. It requires no drilling or disturbance of tooth structure. All we do is gently clean your child’s teeth and brush on the sealant.

Will my child be exposed to high levels of radiation during x-rays?

We have kids, so we know just how parents feel about keeping their children safe – even in the dentist’s office. Not only do we meet the highest sterilization standards, we have invested in all digital radiography (x-rays) to reduce our patents’ exposure to radiation. If you have any concerns about our x-rays, please give us a call. We will be happy to answer any questions.

Why do baby teeth need fillings? Aren’t they going to fall out anyway?

Even though your child’s baby teeth will eventually fall out, they are not disposable. We recommend doing everything possible to retain them until they fall out naturally when the adult teeth are ready to replace them. If cavities or infection do occur on baby teeth, we recommend treatment and restoration of baby teeth. This will save your child pain, discomfort, and infection.

When should my child have a first visit?

We recommend that you schedule your child’s first visit as soon as his or her first tooth erupts. Beginning early helps children get acquainted with and enjoy their dental experience. It also helps us discover non-obvious dental concerns. This saves you time and expense, while making sure your child’s dental experiences are easy and pleasant. It also allows us to find and diagnose developing bite problems, and any possible orthodontic care needed in the future
